This is a pic of an old ambulance - as an entry in our local parade. It is amazing how different things are today - and this shot is just one of many that could portray that. The style reminds me of a funeral coach ... which may be a good reason why todays ambulances don't look the same. I've ridden in funeral coaches many times (as well as modern ambulances, I'm sorry to say), and it would probably scare me to death to have something like this pull up to my house!!!

Funny you should mention that. This is a '72 Cadillac, and the body is exactly the same chasis as the funeral coach. In fact, several years prior to this, the ambulance WAS used as the funeral coach, and in some smaller towns, the ambulance was actually stored at the funeral home. This is where some of the coach builders today got the idea of installing strobing headlights for the hearse. Great shot!!!!:) :) :)

scary...just scary. i work at a classic car restoration shop, recently we hired a new mechanic, a weird swedish guy. the first day he shows up in a 1972 ambulance JUST like this one, same make even..i know that because of the little stylish things on the back pannel, since ive gotten to know him, ive joined local hearse club, yikes. fun ive driven his 72, and many other hearses, and i must say, im actually more comfy in an ambulance, the coaches have bad vibes to me...but ive grown to deal with the vibes

LOL ... I would only choose to ride in either one if I got to ride in the front, lol. So far I've been in the back of the ambulance too many times, and the front of a hearse many times - so I would have to say that my current preference is the hearse ... only due to the riding in the front thing. My friend ~music-writer would disagree with us both, I'm afraid. He is a funeral director, and would drive a hearse around as his personal car if he could!!!

***Note from ~music-writer
"Nobody has ever died in a hearse - and they do in an ambulance all the time"

I guess he's right there {{shiver at the thought}}
I have always enjoyed my rides with him in the hearse, because they were empty ... and we simply rode around and talked of love, life, and friendships...
